If you knew exactly how long you were going live, would you do things any differently? Imagine that every morning you would be able to watch the sand move inside an hourglass that would show you exactly how much time you would have left. How would you act?
Les Brown once said; “The graveyard is the richest place on earth, because it is here that you will find all the hopes and dreams that were never fulfilled, the books that were never written, the songs that were never sung, the inventions that were never shared, the cures that were never discovered, all because someone was too afraid to take that first step, keep with the problem, or determined to carry our their dream.”
I get a lot of questions about my lifestyle and my businesses. “How do you do it? How can I start my own business? What type of business can I launch? Do you have a good business idea for me?” The list goes on for a few hours. The list of reasons why they cannot pursue their dreams is even longer. It would take me days to write them all down.
Traveling around the world, making money, being your own boss, all without being stuck in a 9-5 lifestyle, it’s an appealing thought to many people. 95% of these people will, however, be doing exactly the same thing and asking me the same questions five years from now.
Most people will never follow their dreams or use their capacities to their fullest. Even though they have expressed the interest or need for changes in their lives, they don’t. They probably never will. Most people need to get hit by the hammer before they’ll ever change their career, their marriage, or their life. They would rather be unhappy, miserable even, than doing something about it.
I totally get it. I was there before. There are times when life presses us to do the wrong things that we ordinarily wouldn’t want to do. That’s when we cave in, end up going through emotional trauma because we know we’ve made a wrong choice.
Luckily, there is always a way out, no matter how hard life may press you. You can create your own path, your own destiny. Whoever you are now, you can re-create yourself. All those fears are easy to overcome once you get rid of the excuses. Let me show you why.
Make mistakes
Don’t expect to get it right on the first try. Mistakes are inevitable. Life is not about the destination but the journey that gets you there. Most of the successful entrepreneurs we hear about nowadays have failed at some point along their journey to success, but the element that made the difference is that they embraced the failure as a chance to improve and succeed instead of giving in and letting go of their dreams.
Fear for the unknown
Don’t let the fear of the unknown keep you from bringing a new idea to life. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Success often starts with a failure. Actually, the higher your rate of failure, the higher the chances of hitting your target are. Instead of running away from your fear, stick to your guns and confront it. Conquer it.
If at first you don’t succeed, keep your vision firm but change your approach. Don’t let your ego stand in the way of your goals, just because you made a mistake. Try to make it right.
Making a living
Don’t let the pressure of making a living stop you from creating your life. The most difficult part to accomplishing your goal is taking the first step. Don’t let society imposed norms and routine discourage you because your dream sticks out of the laid pattern.
Create your own path to success
You don’t have to be a computer programmer to become a billionaire like Bill Gates. You are talented enough to create your own path to success. Look deeper within yourself, and you will find there is a way when there appears to be none. Have a goal in mind and be willing to recalibrate whenever the necessity arises.
“When you grow up you tend to get told that the world is the way it is and your life is just to live your life inside the world. Try not to bash into the walls too much. Try to have a nice family, have fun, save a little money. That’s a very limited life. Life can be much broader once you discover one simple fact: Everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you and you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use.” -Steve Jobs
The sky is not the limit
The sky is actually not the limit. As a matter of fact, it is your stepping stone. The technologies that we enjoy today are a result of people going beyond their perceived limits. When it comes to making improvements, there are no limits at all. There is always room for improvement in your business, your career, or your lifestyle.
Don’t end up getting into a mind deadening routine
It is easy to run 100 meters, especially when you do it every day of your life. But what about running a marathon? Making a better life is like running a marathon. If you want to succeed, you have to be consistent and push through the pain. Allow yourself plenty of time to think and gather your facts before you take action. Don’t wait until someone encourages you to take your first step. Most importantly, don’t allow negative criticism to wear you down, because ordinary people tend to demolish the idea of the unknown and its frightening effects.
Whatever your dreams are, keep pushing and keep targeting for the stars: never give up, and most importantly, do what you love doing even if people don’t appreciate you for doing it.
